We  wonder how kids inevitably need a change of clothes every few hours, whether it is after a meal because of some curry or ketchup landing on their shirt or after playtime to get out of sweaty, muddy clothes. Then, of course, they also need pyjamas before they are tucked into bed. Seems to us like the laundry basket is constantly overflowing!

We know that maintaining a constant supply of clean and fresh smelling clothes can be a struggle. These clothes are often soaked in sweat, smell bad and are covered with all kinds of tough stains like that of grass, mud, sweat, turmeric, chocolate and so on. We find it challenging to remove these stains with regular detergent as they do not dissolve easily and leave behind residue on the clothes. In our attempt to find an answer to the question ‘how to remove sweat smell from clothing,’ we even tried applying a paste of baking soda and water on the stained area. Unfortunately, the stain still remained and it also ate into a huge chunk of our time.

Thankfully, after some trial and error, we were able to come up with an effective hack to clean our kid’s daily sweaty clothes quickly! Read on to know more.

Wash Immediately to Remove Sweat Smell  From Clothing

Kids often toss their sweaty clothes in the laundry basket along with all the other clothes once they are back from playtime. This ends up spreading the foul odour of sweat on all the clothes in the basket. Moreover, sweaty and damp clothes can even end up breeding mould on them. We have seen that the quicker we wash these clothes, the easier it is to remove the bad odour and stains from them.

1. Pre- Soak the Clothes

In our experience, this step is one of the most effective ways to get rid of stubborn stains from your kid’s clothes. We tried the Surf Excel Easy Wash Detergent Powder for this purpose and loved the results. We soaked the stained sweaty garments in a Surf Excel Easy Wash Detergent Powder and water solution for about 30 minutes.

Being a superfine powder, we noticed that Surf Excel Easy Wash Detergent Powder dissolved easily, allowing it to reach the stains quickly and get rid of them fast. Also, we tried this product on coloured as well as white garments and found it absolutely safe to use on both. We had no complaints of colour transfer or fading whatsoever!

2. Refrain from Overdosing Detergent

After pre-soaking the clothes, wring out all the excess water and then place them in the washing machine. At this point, we have a tendency to add additional detergent, thinking that it would make the clothes smell better. But, this makes them harder to rinse and causes germs to stick to the clothes. Hence, we recommend only adding detergent according to the instructions on the packaging. This measure also ensures that our clothes are free of unwanted residue.

We used two scoops of Surf Excel Easy Wash Detergent Powder when we hand washed our clothes and three scoops for machine wash. We observed that Surf Excel Easy Wash Detergent Powder’s unique lather formulation deep cleans clothes, removing all kinds of stains, while also helping save water with each wash.

3. Include Fabric Conditioner for Additional Benefits

It goes without saying that we need to wash children’s playtime clothes repeatedly to get rid of germs, bacteria, dirt and stains. However, over a period of time, this may lead to the wear and tear of clothes. We have seen that using  a fabric conditioner like Comfort Core  preserves the fabric and lends a long lasting fragrance to the clothes. With the use of Comfort Core, our clothes not only smelled fresh but also felt noticeably softer when touched.

4. Avoid the Dryer

Tumble dryers tend to lock in the stubborn sweat odours into the clothes. Thus, we recommend line drying clothes under natural sunlight instead of using dryers. The sun’s rays kill the bacteria on clothes and also eliminate any remaining traces of odour and stains.

Key Tip: Place a laundry hamper next to the place where your kids generally change clothes. The hamper should have a lid and should be easily accessible. We find this an easy way to ensure that the clothes do not end up on the floor and create a mess.
