Lighting diyas is a traditional custom followed in India. Lighting the oil-filled diya signifies power, goodness, purity and light. In Indian households, diyas are regularly used while performing pujas and during festivals. If you’re a person who uses diyas frequently, you know the struggle of deep-cleaning it. But worry no more, we have come up with a fuss-free cleaning method to restore the brightness and charm of your diyas.
Step 1: Clean the Grease
Start by removing the thick black grease with a spoon or a spatula. Make sure you remove all of it.
Step 2: Clean the Stain
Once you have cleared the grease, move to cleaning the black leftover stain. Dampen the inner sides of your diya with water. Then gently scrub the surface with an old toothbrush to loosen the stains. Now use a rag to clean the surface.
Step 3: Make a Cleaning Solution
Make a mild cleaning solution by mixing 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid and 2-3 drops of white vinegar in ½ a cup of water. You can try using Vim dishwashing liquid. Pour the solution in a small spray bottle.
Step 4: Apply the Solution
Spray the solution on the inner and outer surfaces of your diyas. Wait for 10 minutes and then gently scrub with an old toothbrush. Finally, wash your diyas under cold running water.
There you go! Cleaning your precious diyas has never been easier. These steps will keep your diyas clean, stain-free and ready for each festival or occasion.
If there is decorative artwork on your diyas, be gentle while handling them.
