When talking about how to disinfect floors and keep them virus-free, the first thing to understand is the difference between simple cleaning and disinfection. While cleaning is helpful in the removal of germs, it does not necessarily kill them. It might help reduce the risk of infection, but during the current pandemic, that’s not enough. Disinfecting, on the other hand, refers to the use of chemical-based products that help kill germs on surfaces, including floors. Not all floor cleaners are the same, and some may be more efficient than others. This means we need to make an informed decision regarding which floor cleaner to purchase to kill germs on our floors. This is especially critical if you have somebody infected with Coronavirus in your home or babies/children who might have lower immunities. Here are some tips to help you disinfect your floors and other surfaces and keep them clean and virus-free!

1. Make Sure You Clean Regularly

The number of times we need to clean our floors typically depends on the traffic one gets at home and the number of family members and pets in the house. In general, floors located in high-traffic areas of your home, like the kitchen, bathroom, dining area, entryway etc. should be cleaned frequently. In Indian households, we believe in the daily mopping of floors with water and a floor cleaner, since most of us don’t have carpeting and hence our floors are prone to get dirty and infected with germs, bacteria and viruses quite quickly. Even if you can’t clean the entire home, make sure the high-traffic areas are covered on a daily basis. Make sure you clean even hardwood floors on a daily basis, in case you have those at home.

2. Use the Right Floor Cleaner

After sweeping, you also need to disinfect floors. While we tried a number of regular floor cleaners, there was none that had disinfectant properties. And, then we came across Domex Disinfectant Floor Cleaner which, as the label reads, is 100 times more powerful than phenyl and kills germs that regular floor cleaners leave behind. The product contains Sodium Hypochlorite, which is recommended by CDC for cleaning floors. It is known for its antimicrobial activity and does not leave behind any toxic residues. It is also unaffected by the hardness of water. Products containing sodium hypochlorite are typically inexpensive as well as fast acting. No wonder, it is recommended by leading health organizations of the world for cleaning dirty floors and surfaces. With all this information and our experience of using the product, we found it quite reassuring to use it on our flooring. When using a floor cleaner, make sure you read the instructions label on the product in order to understand how to use it. By this we mean, knowing how long the disinfecting product is required to be on the floor for the proper killing of germs.

3. Use Warm Water and the Right Quantity of Floor Cleaner

When mopping your floors, make sure you use warm water to fill the bucket since it is quicker and better for cleaning than cold water. Add 2 capfuls of floor cleaning detergent such as Domex Disinfectant Floor Cleaner to half a bucket of water. Do not feel tempted to add an extra quantity of detergent thinking that it might enhance the cleaning power. Always read the instructions on the product label to use the right amount of cleaning detergent. This is because we have noticed that extra-concentrated water doesn’t clean better. In fact, it just becomes harder to rinse.

4. Use Cleaners That Can Disinfect Other Surfaces Too

For us, the perfect example of a floor cleaner that can be used to clean surfaces other than floors is Domex Disinfectant Floor Cleaner. Domex Disinfectant Floor Cleaner is a multi-purpose floor cleaner that can be used on a variety of different surfaces to effectively kill germs. So, you end up saving both time and money on purchasing different products for each individual surface when you have Domex Disinfectant Floor Cleaner at home. Do make sure you do a patch test before using the product on a surface to avoid any damage. We have also seen that these surfaces look absolutely spotless after they’re cleaned with the product.

So, what are you waiting for? Get set clean with these tips for disinfecting your floors and keeping them virus-free and spotless now!
