Do you have a favourite top or pair of jeans you love to wear? We bet they fit you just right and feel comfortable and soft against your skin. You can preserve their softness for longer using some simple laundry tips and tricks. We advise against washing them very often. Wash them as sparingly as you can with gentle yet effective laundry detergent. Vigorous wringing and exposure to harsh sunlight can cause your garments to lose their shape and colour.

1) Make Your Fabric Softener

A fabric softener conditions your clothes and helps you preserve their softness. You can make a fabric softener yourself. Add 2 cups of sea salt to ½ a cup of baking soda along with 3 tsp. of your favourite essential oil. Put this solution in the washing load along with your detergent. You can also try using a commercial fabric conditioner such as Comfort Core. It is easily available in the market. It keeps the fibres intact, thus making the fabric soft and smooth. It also adds a mild fragrance to the fabric.

2) Soak Your Clothes

Soaking helps loosen the stains and facilitates stain removal without the need for excessive scrubbing. Add a cup of salt in a bucket of lukewarm water and soak your garments in it overnight. The next day, wash your garments on a gentle setting.

3) Reduce Static

If you do not have the time to soak your clothes overnight, wash them like you usually do. But, when running the dryer, add 3 aluminium balls of 3-inch diameter each or wool dryer balls to the washing load. This will keep your clothes static-free and comfortable to wear.

4) Miscellaneous Steps

Follow a few safe laundry practices to maintain the colour and shape of your garments. Make separate laundry bags for your whites, light-coloured and dark-coloured clothing. Treat your shirts as delicates when washing them in the machine. You can wash your jeans and hoodies together.

Stay Stylish.
