Eco-friendly products are the need of the hour. Using eco-friendly soaps not only ensures the safety of your skin, but also of the planet. If you’re planning to make soap, here’s a handy guide to make it using the best-smelling essential oils for your home along with all-natural ingredients.

Step 1: Heat the Soap Base

Soap bases made of natural ingredients like glycerin, shea butter, aloe vera, cocoa butter, olive oil etc. are easily available in India. Cut the soap base into chunks. Then, place in a microwave-safe bowl. Set your microwave to the highest temperature and heat the soap base for 30 seconds. You could also place the bowl over a pan of boiling water to melt the soap chunks. Be careful not to touch the hot soap with your hands to prevent burns.

Step 2: Add Essential Oils

If you’re heating the bowl over a pan of boiling water, directly add 25-30 drops of your preferred essential oil to the contents and stir carefully using a spoon. If you’re using a microwaveable bowl, take it out of the microwave first before adding the oil.

Step 3: Mould It

Now take a mould of your preferred shape. Soap moulds are easily available in the market. Apply some coconut oil on the base. Pour the above soap mixture in it. Leave it to cool for 6-7 hours. You could place the soap in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours or more, to speed up the cooling process.

Step 4: Store It

Once the soap is firm, remove it from the moulds and slice with a knife if you prefer smaller pieces. Wrap the pieces individually in wax paper. Store them for four weeks to cure.

Your natural, eco-friendly soap will be ready in a month’s time! You can make fragrant soap using different essential oils. Rosemary, peppermint, lavender, tea tree, cinnamon are some of the best essential oils used in soap making.
