You keep our dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. Ideally, the plates and the dishes should be cleared off any leftover food and rinsed first. If the food residue is not thrown away first, it will accumulate in the sink. You should therefore encourage all your family members to empty the dishes before placing them in the kitchen sink.
A choked sink can be embarrassing if you have guests over. In addition, the food particles sticking to the pipe can release a bad odour that can spread throughout your home. It is also unhygienic and can cause disease.
If your drain is already clogged, you can unclog it yourself using these simple and effective tips. It is best to clean your sink drain every week so that water flows down freely. Keep these cleaning tips handy.
1) Using a Plunger
Fill half of the sink with hot water. Then place the plunger on the drain and work it. The vacuum created by the plunger will suck out the accumulated gunk and drain the water. You might have to repeat the process a couple of times to dislodge the blockage completely.

2) Using Baking Soda and Vinegar
Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands and avoid direct contact with the muck in the sink. Use a cup to remove any accumulated water from the sink and throw the water down your bathroom washbasin. Then pour 2 cups of baking soda down the drain. Force it in using a spoon if you need to. Follow this by pouring 1 cup of vinegar, and place the stopper on the drain to push the vinegar towards the blockage. Let the mixture react for 5 minutes. Now, pour 4 cups of hot water down the drain, and soon you’ll have an unclogged sink. Be careful not to burn yourself when handling the hot water.
After unclogging the drain, you can give your kitchen sink a thorough rinse using an effective dishwashing liquid. Vim dishwashing liquid is a good option for this.
