A clean wash basin is not only appealing but also hygienic. Due to regular usage, various kinds of stains tend to form on its surface. Rust and hard water stains are the 2 common types of stains found. Over a period of time, these stains not only get stubborn but also damage the surface of your wash basin.

Why You Must Clean Your Wash Basin?

Cleaning the wash basin is one of the easier things to do. However, you must clean it frequently. Soap residue and hard water are two of the most common culprits behind stains on the wash basin. Avoid this stain build-up by cleaning the wash basin regularly. You must use a soft sponge while scrubbing the wash basin. Remember, ceramic is delicate. Abrasive scratchpads can damage or chip your wash basin.

How to Clean Your Wash Basin?

The type of cleaning method you use will depend on the kind of stains on your wash basin. If you spot rust stains on your wash basin, use lemon juice or vinegar. If your wash basin has hard water stains, treat it with baking soda. After cleaning, you must always disinfect the wash basin as it can become a hot spot for germs. You can try Domex Multi-Purpose Disinfectant Spray. It contains Sodium Hypochlorite as recommended by leading health organisations for disinfecting surfaces. It kills germs on frequently touched surfaces and protects against infection causing germs. Always test on a small hidden area first and follow instructions on the pack for usage and compatible surfaces.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you clean your wash basin with ease.

Method 1: How to Remove Rust Stains from Wash basin

  1. Step 1: Treat the Stains

Cover the stains with lemon juice or white vinegar. Let them sit on the stain for 5 to 10 minutes. Though these ingredients are mildly acidic, prolonged exposure can damage your ceramic wash basin. Wipe off the lemon juice/vinegar with a soft rag and see if the stains come off easily.

  2. Step 2: Rinse the Wash Basin

Once the stains are off, rinse the basin thoroughly with plain tap water. Ensure that there is no lemon juice or vinegar residue.

  3. Step 3: Disinfect Your Wash Basin

Removing the stains from your wash basin isn’t enough. You must ensure that it is properly disinfected. Use a suitable disinfectant spray such as Domex Multi-Purpose Disinfectant Spray, which kills germs. Always test on a small hidden area and rinse to check compatibility first. Don’t forget to read the instructions on the product, and check if it’s recommended for soft and porous surfaces.

Method 2: How to Remove Hard Water Stains From Wash Basin

  1. Step 1: Make Wash Basin Cleaner

Make a paste using water and baking soda. Let this paste sit on the stained spots of your wash basin. After 10 minutes, scrub the paste using a slightly damp, soft sponge. Rinse off the basin with cold water.

  2. Step 2: Treat With Bathroom Cleaner

Use a good bathroom cleaner to remove stains and get the surfaces clean. You can use Cif Bathroom Cleaner that cleans watermarks and soap sediments. Check the pack to understand the correct usage instructions. And always test on a small part to check compatibility. It is easily available in the market. Wash your basin including the exteriors with this solution using a soft cleaning rag. Rinse with cold water. Wipe the basin dry with a microfibre cloth.

  3. Step 3: Disinfect Your Wash Basin

It will help keep your wash basin free of disease-causing germs. Ensure that you wipe the exteriors of your wash basin along with the interiors and the faucet too.

  4. Step 4: Clean the Faucet

To clean your faucet, simply fill a sealable bag with 1 cup of vinegar and secure it tightly around the faucet with a rubber brand. Allow it to stay for 50-60 minutes. Vinegar helps break dirt and stains and makes it easy to wash it away. Then remove the sealable bag and scrub with an old toothbrush and wash away with plain water.

How to Maintain Your Wash Basin

The best way to keep your wash basin shining like brand new is to keep it free of stains. Do not leave coffee, wine or other stain-causing substances in the basin for long. Rinse these liquids as soon as the exposure occurs. Wash your wash basin with dishwashing liquid every alternate day to prevent dirt built up.

Keeping your wash basin clean and shining is simple. You can also use some lemon oil. A coat of lemon oil will prevent dirt built up and add shine to your wash basin. Stain-free fixtures are one of the easiest ways to lift the aesthetics of your home.
