Now, fill the water dispenser of your steamer with water. If you’d like to start the cleaning soon, fill it up with hot water. It will reach its boiling point quickly.

  3. Step 3: Add Mild Detergent

    If you are steam cleaning your carpet or curtains, you may want also want to add a few drops of mild detergent to the water. Delicate garments made from silk, wool and cotton require extra care and using a mild detergent can work wonders. You can also use a steam cleaner to clean your woolen sweaters. Just hang them on a clothesline and run the steamer over it. This way, you don’t have to worry about your sweaters losing their shape.
