Moisture makes cardboard soggy, which causes them to leave unsightly marks on your shelf or storage space. This can get worse during the monsoons. Damp walls and fluctuating humidity levels can aggravate the problem.
Of course, your guests may never catch sight of these stains, but you must not ignore these stains. With time, the stains will only get stubborn and more challenging to remove.
Follow the steps given below to bid goodbye to cardboard stains effortlessly.
Step 1: Scrape the Stain
Scrape the stains using a plastic scraper, but do not apply too much force. Buff the area with a clean cotton cloth to remove dust and residue.
Step 2: Prepare a Cleaning Solution
Grab a bowl and add ½ a cup of white vinegar and ½ a cup of baking soda along with warm water. Mix well. Your cleaning solution is ready. Now, pour the solution in an empty spray bottle and sprinkle it generously on the stained area of your shelf. Leave it for 15 minutes. Vinegar and baking soda are natural cleaning agents that’ll break down the stain and lift it from the surface. Use a scrub pad to remove the stains gently. Wipe off the solution with a damp cloth.
Step 3: Wash the Shelf
Wash your shelf to restore its sparkling finish. Add 3 drops of dishwashing liquid in a bowl of water and mix well. Dip a sponge in the soapy solution and wipe the surface of your shelf with it. Wash off the foamy layer using a damp cloth. Wipe off the moisture with a clean, cotton cloth. If the shelf is made of glass, you can try a cleaner like Cif Glass Cleaner. It is easily available in the market. Always read pack for usage instructions and test on a small part before use. Ensure there is no residue moisture and the surface has dried thoroughly. Keep the doors to your cabinet open for some time. You can also use a hairdryer to get rid of the moisture quickly.
Step 4: Disinfect the Shelf
Once you have washed your shelf, it is important to disinfect for better hygiene. You can use products such as Domex Multi-Purpose Disinfectant Spray. It contains Sodium Hypochlorite as recommended by leading health organisations for disinfecting surfaces. It kills germs on frequently touched surfaces and protects against infection causing germs. Always test on a small hidden area first and follow instructions on the pack for usage and compatible surfaces.
Now is the time to replace the old cardboard boxes with new ones and store them away neatly.
