Make-up brushes collect natural oils from your skin and some residue of make-up products like foundation and compact. The oily surface then attracts a lot of dust. Moreover, the foundation bits begin to rot on the brush fibres. Now, you wouldn’t want to expose your skin to a grimy make-up brush. You do not need to wash the brush after every use. But, once a month (based on how frequently you use the brush) is highly recommended.
Don’t know how to clean your make-up brushes? Just follow the steps given below.
Ingredients to Keep Handy
a) Bowl of water
b) Dishwash gel
Step 1: Prepare Cleaning Solution
Add 1 drop of a dishwashing liquid in a bowl of water. Mix it well.
Step 2: Immerse the Brushes in Cleaning Solution
Dip the brush fibres in the cleaning solution and swirl your brush to ensure that the soapy water reaches every individual thread. The dishwashing liquid will cut the grease. Ensure that you do not soak the metallic ring that glues the fibres to the stick in water. Exposure to water can loosen the glue.
Step 3: Wash with Water
Hold the brush facing downwards. Place it under tap water. Let the clear stream of water wash off the soapy solution from the threads. Repeat, Step 2 if you can still see some caked-on bits of make-up products on your brush fibres.
Step 4: Remove Excess Water
Wrap the brush bristles in an absorbent towel and gently press it to get rid of excess moisture. Reshape the brush to keep its natural state. It should be noted that you must not keep your brush standing on a table while it is still damp. Keep it in a horizontal position with the brush bristles hanging from the edge of the table. Doing so will prevent them from getting squished.
Step 5: Apply a Conditioner
When the bristles have dried partially, apply a small quantity of conditioner. You can use a fabric conditioner. It keeps the fibres intact, thus making the brushes soft and smooth. Let it dry. You could also use a hair conditioner. Fluff the brush fibres to retain its volume.
Follow the steps given above to keep your make-up brushes clean and safe to use. Dirt and make-up stains and crumbs on the brush can cause various allergic reactions on your skin. As far as possible, avoid sharing make-up brushes with your peers. Contact to foreign particles should be avoided especially if you have sensitive skin.
Do not wash your make up brushes with hot water. As it can soften the glue holding the brush fibres together.
