Don’t take mould growth lightly. It can trigger a variety of allergic reactions in children and the elderly. Bathroom and kitchen walls are the most common areas where you’ll find mould growth. These are the places where moisture is easily trapped. A few precautions like keeping the room well-ventilated, ensuring there is a gap between the furniture and the walls so that air can circulate freely, and regularly inspecting for leakage can help you avoid mould in your home.

However, some places like behind the kitchen cabinets are fertile grounds for black mould. Of course, you can paint over those unsightly black spots, but they will reappear in weeks and your investment in painting your walls will be wasted.

Here’s an easy and effective way to clean black mould:

Ingredients to Keep Handy:

a) Protective hand gloves and goggles

b) Bleach

c) Water

d) Hair dryer

  1. Step 1: Wear Safety Gear

Wear protective gloves and safety goggles when handling bleach. Ensure that you keep the kitchen windows open to allow cross-ventilation. Read the instructions on the product before applying it.

  2. Step 2: Spray a Cleaning Solution

Mix 1 part bleach with 3 parts water. Spray this solution on the mould affected area of your home. Scrub the mould off with a brush.

  3. Step 3: Repaint the Affected Area

Your paint will likely begin to come off because of the intense scrubbing. So, before you get to it, buy a can of fresh paint to repaint the mould-affected areas of your walls. Do not paint over wet walls. Wait till the wall is completely dry. You can use a hairdryer or a leaf blower to speed up the process.

Cleaning mould from your walls is easy. However, you must try and find the reason for mould growth. If there’s a leakage problem, get it fixed as soon as you can.

The best way to solve your mould problem is to prevent it.
