Cleaning your flooring can be a time-consuming task. To make this task simpler it is important to know how to clean different types of flooring. Follow these tips to learn the right technique to clean laminated, ceramic, vinyl, wood and linoleum flooring.

1) Laminated Floors

Your floor laminate may resemble hardwood planks or natural stone tiles, but you need to care for it as a laminate. Start with dry mopping or vacuuming the floor. Next, spot-clean any stained areas with a damp mop and let your floors dry naturally. Remember never to polish a laminated floor.

2) Ceramic or Vinyl Floors

To clean ceramic or vinyl floors, mix ¼th of a cup of vinegar in a spray bottle with 2-3 drops of dishwashing soap and warm water. Apply the solution on your floor one section at a time and wipe with a damp microfibre mop as you go. Finish the cleaning process by using a floor cleaner. This will help keep your floor spotless.

3) Hardwood Floors

Wood floors typically have a protective coating which helps prevent stains and water damage. To clean this type of flooring, first, sweep or dust your floors. Next, mix ¼th of a cup of mild liquid soap with water in a bucket. Grab a microfibre cloth, dip it in this solution and wipe your floors clean.

4) Linoleum Floors

Linoleum is made from linseed oil, limestone, resin, wood fibre and cork dust, and is coloured with mineral pigments. You need to treat these floors with care. In a spray bottle, mix a few drops of dishwashing soap and hot water. Spray the solution on a section of the floor and wipe with a damp microfibre cloth or mop. Your floor should air-dry almost immediately. If the floor feels slightly sticky to touch, wipe it with another clean, damp microfibre mop or cloth.

5) Tiled Floors

To clean your tiled floors, mix 2 tsp. of dishwashing liquid, 2 tbsp. of white vinegar to 2 cups of hot water. Pour the concoction in a spray bottle. Spray it all over your flooring and clean with a sponge. You can also run a steamer over your flooring to remove any stains and bacteria.

6) Natural Stone Floors

To clean your natural stone flooring, mix 2 tsp. of dishwashing liquid in ½ bucket of warm water and mop with it. Avoid using any acidic cleaning agents like vinegar or lemon juice on it as these could potentially damage the natural finish of your stone flooring.

You can clean and disinfect the floor using a suitable disinfectant floor cleaner, like a sodium-hypochlorite based product such as Domex Floor Cleaner which kills germs. Follow instructions on the pack for usage and compatible surfaces and always test on an inconspicuous area first.

There you go! These tips will help you make your floor cleaning job simpler and effective. Don’t let stains and dirt on your floors trouble you any longer.
