Cotton garments occupy most of our wardrobe space and with good reason. Cotton is soft, light and breathable. What’s more, there are many stylish cotton outfits readily available. It is the preferred fabric of most Indian designers. They are also reasonably easy to maintain. If taken care of, they will last for years to come. However, there are chances of your cotton clothes fading if not treated with care. But don’t worry, you can enhance their lifespan and save them from fading or discolouration by using these simple laundry tips and tricks.
Let’s get started.
1) Say No to Hot Water
We suggest you always wash your cotton garments in cold water. It helps retain the shape and texture of your cottons. Using hot water will damage the fabric and cause it to lose shape.
2) Soak Them
It is best to hand-wash your cotton clothes. If not all, you must at least try to hand-wash your expensive cotton garments. Just add 2 cups of mild detergent to a bucket of water. Now, gently twirl your hands to mix the detergent in the water properly. Soak your cotton garments for 5-10 minutes in the detergent solution. Wring gently. Then, rinse and wash your clothes as you usually do.

3) Separate Colours
Make 3 piles for your laundry: Light, dark and whites. Wash them separately. Mixing dark coloured clothes with your whites and light-coloured garments can result in discolouration. It also causes the colour to transfer.

4) Use Vinegar
If you’re machine-washing your cotton clothes, add 1 cup of vinegar to prevent fading and preserve the brightness of your cotton clothes. It also helps in keeping your cotton clothes soft and smelling fresh.
5) Flat-Dry
Flat-dry your cotton clothes in a shaded area. Do not expose your cotton clothes to direct sunlight as it can cause the colours to fade and the fabric to shrink.
These tips will keep your cotton clothes from fading.
