How to care for Kolhapuri Chappals and Juttis | Get Set Clean

A good quality jutti or Kolhapuri chappal is made from genuine leather. If they are not properly cared for, they can become a breeding ground for fungus because of trapped moisture. You can easily avoid this by storing them in a dry place and cleaning them regularly. This is especially important during the monsoon season. In fact, you should absolutely avoid wearing your Kolhapuris at this time of year.

But that’s not enough, you should also store them properly. During the monsoon, there is increased moisture in the air, so there is an increased risk of fungus infestation on your Kolhapuris.

Follow these steps to keep your Kolhapuri chappals protected for longer.

Step 1: Dust your Chappals

Take a soft cotton cloth or a soft-bristled brush to dust off your juttis or Kolhapuri chappals. This will help you remove any surface dirt.

Step 2: Oil Your Chappals

Pour 2 tbsp. of coconut oil in a bowl. Dip a soft cotton cloth in the oil and rub it on your chappals gently. Make sure your chappals are properly covered in oil, including the sole. The oil acts as a shield against moisture in the air. This also helps in maintaining the shine and softness of the leather.

Step 3: Wrap in Newspaper

Once you’ve applied oil on your Kolhapuri chappals, wrap them in an old newspaper. Keep them facing opposite directions. Now, fasten the newspaper with an elastic rubber band. Place the wrapped chappal in a cotton bag and keep it in a dry place.

Well, this is all it takes to make your Kolhapuris last longer.
