Follow these simple steps and you won’t have to worry.

  1. Step 1: Brush Your Jacket

Use a brush to loosen and get rid of any surface dirt from the fabric. Be sure to brush with the grain of the fabric, rather than against it.

  2. Step 2: Remove Stains

To remove stains, particularly oil residue or sweat marks, apply a thin layer of cornstarch to your suede jacket and leave for a few hours. You can even leave it overnight. The cornstarch will absorb the stains and lift them from the material. Next, use a suede brush to remove the cornstarch.

  3. Step 3: For Tough Stains

To remove tough stains, use a suede eraser which is available in market. Gently rub it on the stain.

Alternatively, you can also use a solution of vinegar and water. Mix 3-4 tsp. of white vinegar and 1-2 tsp. of water. Dampen a cotton ball in this solution and rub it over the stain. The stain should disappear gradually.

  4. Step 4: Spray Suede Protector

Once the stains are gone, spray suede protector over your jacket. It helps prevent any further stains. Check the instructions on the product label to understand the right way of using it.

  5. Step 5: Steam Your Jacket

Steam-cleaning also works well when it comes to removing stains from suede jackets. While steaming, be careful not to oversaturate the material. The best way to steam-clean a suede jacket is to hang it in your bathroom after you have finished a hot shower. This is a natural way to create a steam bath for your suede jacket as well.

  6. Step 6: Keep it Dry

You need to dry your suede jacket immediately after the steam bath. Hanging it out to dry naturally is the best option. Doing so will also allow your jacket to air and also eliminate odour. Always check the weather forecast before heading out with your suede jacket. If it looks like rain, don’t hang it out in the open.

  7. Step 7: Store it Right

It’s best to store your suede jackets in garment bags to keep dust and moisture at bay. Also, always hang your jacket on a broad hanger to maintain its shape.
