With the numerous parties, dances and festive celebrations you are likely to attend this Diwali, you will need to ensure that your favourite ethnic outfits are ready to wear. However, these clothes need to be taken care of well and doing this is easy.

Use wooden hangers to hang your clothes.

1) For Washable Silk

To wash your silk outfit, add 1 cup of mild detergent to a bucket of lukewarm water. Soak your garment in this solution for 10 minutes. Take it out and rinse under cool water. To dry, do not wring; instead, wrap it in a towel and gently press the towel to remove any excess water. Finally, hang the garment on a wooden hanger and let it dry in a shady place. Feel free to look your best in your stunning silk outfit.

2) For Cotton

Washing your cotton outfits in hot water may damage the fabric or lead to discolouration. Instead, add 2 cups of mild detergent to a bucket of water and soak your cotton clothes in it for 5-10 minutes. Make sure you wring them gently to get rid of excess water. Then, wash in your washing machine by adding 1 cup of vinegar to your washer during the rinse cycle. This prevents fading and preserves the brightness of your cotton clothes, as well as keeps your clothes feeling soft and smelling fresh.

3) For Chiffon

While hand-washing, fill a bucket with lukewarm water and add 1 cup of mild detergent to it. Put your chiffon garment in the water and swirl it around. Let it soak for 20 minutes. Rinse under cool water until all the soapy water is washed off. Don’t wring the fabric. Place it in between two dry towels and press down to allow the excess water to get absorbed.

4) For Brocade

Because brocade has elaborate raised designs, it’s important to take extra care of these clothes. Read the care label for cleaning and storing instructions. If hand-washing is suggested, mix ½ cup of mild detergent in half a bucket of cool water. Soak your garment in this soapy solution for 5 minutes and rinse. Do not scrub or twist your garment as this can damage brocade. To dry, lay your garment evenly between two cotton towels and press down gently to soak up any excess water. Place your garment on a flat surface to dry naturally.

5) For Polyester

Remember to read the care label for washing instructions and guidelines. To wash, take a bucket of lukewarm water and add ½ cup of a mild detergent to it. Soak your polyester outfit in this solution. Rinse and leave it to dry naturally. Try not to dry in the washer.
