Cleaning woollen blankets is easy, but you cannot wash them the same way you clean your regular sheets. So we’ve put together a step-by-step process for you to follow.
Step 1: Brush
Whether your woollen blanket is a little dusty or heavily stained, a good brush-down is always required. You can use any soft-bristled brush for this purpose. Keep the blanket on a flat surface and brush from top to bottom. Brushing in the same direction will ensure the fibres don’t get damaged.
Step 2: Treat Stains
Stains on woollens can be a problem, especially if they are not treated before storing. Make a solution comprising 1-part vinegar and 2-parts water. Pour this mixture into a spray bottle. Spray it over the stained area and let it soak for 20 minutes.

Step 3: Wash
Check the care label to understand if the wool blanket can be washed in the washing machine. If yes, wash it on the cold water setting or the ‘wool setting’, if available, in your washing machine. Add 1 cup of mild laundry detergent to the wash and run a gentle cycle.
If the care label suggests hand-washing, take a bucket of cold water and add 1 cup of mild laundry detergent. Soak the woollen blanket for 15 minutes before rinsing it with plain water.

Step 4: Roll Between Towels
Do not wring your blanket as this may ruin the wool. Instead, roll it in between dry towels or cotton bed sheets, which will soak up the water.
Step 5: Dry
Lay your blanket outside on a clean old bedsheet to dry naturally. Avoid keeping it in direct sunlight.
There you go! Follow these steps and your woollen blanket will be ready for winter.
