Cleaning the surfaces in your toilet regularly helps maintain hygiene and cleanliness. Toilet cleaning might seem like a daunting task, however, with a few cleaning tips and tricks, you should be able to do it effortlessly. In this article, we have shared just that!
Before you get started, grab all the essentials: protective gloves, disposable sponge and towels, toilet brush and an effective toilet cleaner.
Use the cleaning tips given below for greater efficiency.Â
1) Cleaning the Area Around the ToiletÂ
Remove all items, such as a trash bin or potted plant, kept in the area around the toilet. You don’t want the water from the toilet bowl to spill on to these objects while cleaning. Open up the windows and keep your toilet well-ventilated while cleaning.Â

2) Cleaning the Outside of the ToiletÂ
Wear your gloves and wring a cloth in hot water. Wipe the exterior of the toilet bowl with it. This will get rid of surface dirt and grime. Now, spray a toilet cleaner and wipe the outside of your toilet bowl clean. Make sure you cover all the surfaces right from the tank to the cover. Discard the cloth as you do not want to transfer germs to the other areas of your home. Â
3) Cleaning the ToiletÂ
Follow the instructions on the toilet cleaner before using it in your commode. Use the top-to-bottom approach while cleaning. Apply the toilet cleaner on the insides of the toilet bowl’s rim. Scrub with a toilet brush and flush away the cleaning solution. The toilet bowl can be deep cleaned using cleaning agent and long handle angular brush. You can use products like Domex Toilet Cleaner. Follow instructions on the pack for usage and compatible surfaces and always test on a small inconspicuous area first. Do not mix acid and bleach. For more toilet cleaning tips, read our article: Tips and tricks for efficient toilet cleaning.
4) Treating Hard-to-Remove Stains
To remove any hard-to-remove stains on a synthetic tub or sink, use a sandpaper. Rub it on the surface and then buff with a clean damp-dry cotton cloth. The stain will be gone.
5) Make the Surfaces Shine
To make your chrome sink shine, use baby oil. Pour 4-5 drops of baby oil on a cotton cloth and rub it on the surface. You can also make a cleaning solution of 1 tbsp. of vinegar, 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid in ½ cup of water and pour into a spray bottle. Spray it and wipe with a sponge. Then clean with a cotton cloth.
6) To Remove Water Stains
Water stains look bluish-greenish in colour. To remove water stains on your toilet surfaces, use a mixture of 2 tbsp. lemon juice and 1 tbsp. baking soda. Apply it on the stain and wait for 15 minutes. Then wash with warm water and pat dry with a cotton cloth.
7) To Clean Your Toilet Brush
After using toilet brush to clean various surfaces, it too needs deep cleaning. Take ½ bucket of warm water and add ½ cup of bleach in it. Soak the brush in it for 4-5 hours and then wash with plain water.
A smelly and stained toilet is not only unhygienic, but also unsightly. Always follow a strict cleaning ritual and use essential oils to add a pleasant fragrance to your bathroom. Â
