Even if you paint your exterior walls annually, but don’t protect them against moisture, your efforts might go down the drain. Moisture in your walls can cause flaking. Extreme weather conditions and fluctuating temperatures further exacerbate the problem. If you don’t get your walls fixed soon, you may face more serious issues, such as mould growth.
Don’t let your walls become a safe haven for allergens. Here are a few tips and tricks you can employ to protect your exterior walls.
To prevent peeling, splash water on your walls before applying the filler and gently wipe dry with a clean cloth.
1) Identify the Problem
Your repair procedure isn’t going to be effective without you knowing the root cause of the problem. The exterior walls could get flaky due to various reasons, such as moisture accumulation, painting in adverse weather conditions, adhesion failure caused by poor quality products, or normal wear and tear.

2) Scrape off Flakes
Remove paint flakes using a scraper or sandpaper. Then, take a wire brush and sweep away the remaining dust.
3) Eliminate Moisture
Moisture can spread underneath paint and cause it to peel. If ignored, this can make your walls damp and, over a period of time, affect its stability. Damp walls can also cause unhygienic conditions inside the building. To prevent mould growth, use a solution that binds the paint to the walls and also kills mould.
4) Use a Good Filler
Apply a good filler as per the manufacturer’s directions to repair any cracks and holes. Let it dry before using sandpaper.
There you go! Weather-proof your exterior walls and stay worry-free all year long!
