As parents we’re always cautious about exposing our kids to germ-ridden environments, where there is potential for them to catch any sort of infection. But, what is the extent to which we can exercise caution, especially during a pandemic?

It’s difficult to be sure that all surfaces are completely germ-free in public places. Also, we can’t really use home remedies like soap and water, club soda, white vinegar etc. when we’re out and about. So, it’s good to have a quick, handy and effective solution for disinfecting your children’s hands, and other unclean surfaces and objects that they might come into contact with. Having been in such situations, we’d like to share some simple steps that will help you and your child stay germ-free and safe in public places!

1. Decide When To Take Your Kid Out

This is the first and one of the most important steps when ensuring your kids' safety in public places. In our experience with kids, it’s hard to enforce social distancing, especially on days when they are feeling very energetic. Keeping that in mind, it’s best to plan outings to different places at times when they’re likely to be less crowded. For example, you could visit the mall on weekdays or plan an early morning round to the park. You could also seek out bigger parks that have more space to run around in. We’ve noticed that by following this guideline, there is a lesser chance of your children coming into contact with a huge crowd of people.

2. Pack a Bag with Essentials Like Disinfectant Wipes Before Going Out

Keep a tote bag or handbag dedicated to park, restaurant, mall and playground visits. Besides key essentials like extra masks, a water bottle, few snacks and hand towels, we also recommend carrying something small and portable that can be used for disinfecting your child’s hands and other surfaces. For us, it’s important for this disinfectant to be free of harsh chemicals and hence we recommend Nature Protect’s On-the-go Disinfectant Wipes. They have natural antibacterial and antifungal ingredients like Neem, Tulsi and Aloe Vera and also leave behind a nice and refreshing fragrance after use.

We know how tactile kids are, and like it or not, they are going to consistently touch surfaces such as door handles, lift buttons, restaurant tables, swings etc. in public places. So, we think it’s a great idea to carry these sanitizing wipes along whenever you’re travelling with them!

Besides hands, these antibacterial surface sanitizing wipes can also be used to disinfect other objects like mobile phones, car keys, gadgets etc. After cleaning an object with the wipe, you simply need to let it air-dry.

3. Ensure That They Wear a Mask

This is beyond negotiation. Our kids have to be equipped with masks when going out to a public place. If you have a fussy toddler, you could make wearing a mask fun by getting them one that has their favourite cartoon character on it. We’ve also achieved success by making a project out of wearing masks. You could spend quality time with your kids colouring or adding stickers to their mask, which will make it fun for them to wear it. Trust us, this method has always worked for us. It not only ensures that your child is safe, but also gives them an opportunity to be creative!

4. Be Extra Vigilant in Public Toilets

When visiting markets and malls, chances are, you will need to use a washroom. Obviously, the only option is a public one. We haven’t always had the greatest experience using public toilet facilities as they’re often unclean, and are potential places to catch infections and get exposed to viruses and germs. For safety and hygiene reasons, we recommend waiting till the crowd has diminished and using Nature Protect’s On-the-go Disinfectant Wipes on the door handles or any other high-touch surface. They also leave your hands smelling fresh and nice after use! We’ve also realized that these sanitizing wipes are absolutely safe for your child’s skin because they don’t have any bleaching agents in them.

As parents, it’s hard not to overthink or over stress about safety in the outdoors, especially in this time of the pandemic. We’ve been there and totally understand your anxiety and confusion. That is why we recommend adhering to basic precautions, such as using alcohol sanitizing wipes as they will help keep your kids germ-free in parks and other public places!
