You have installed a water purifier at home, boil water for your pets and take every possible step to disinfect water to safeguard your family. But in addition to this you must also clean your water tank. It is the main source of water for use, usually when there is a water cut and you have to rely on stored water.

Over a period of time, fungus, algae or bacteria can begin to grow in your water tank. These deposits make the water contaminated and unfit for use. Thus, cleaning your water tank on a timely basis is important. It might seem like a daunting task, but don’t worry. We have a simple process to help you clean your water tank with ease and efficiency.

Step 1: Drain the Tank

Step 2: Get Rid of Excess Water

Since taps are generally located just above the tank bottom, the water may not drain entirely. Use a bucket to remove the excess water and air-dry the tank.

Step 3: Prepare a Cleaning Solution

To clean the surfaces of your water tank, mix 5 cups of dishwashing liquid in a bucket full of warm water and prepare a cleaning solution. You can keep one more bucket of the same cleaning solution ready for use if needed later.

Step 4: Scrub Clean

Dip a scrubber into the solution and scrub the insides of the tank to remove all the slime and sludge. Once you’re done, use a hose to wash the tank and get rid of all residue.

Step 5: Wipe Dry

Take a clean cloth and wipe the water tank dry. Begin by wiping the inner sides of your water tank, gradually working your way out.

With this step-by-step cleaning method, you will be able to clean your tank effectively. However, if you find any of the above steps difficult, you could also call for professional help.
