Babies have a delicate immune system. That means that they are more susceptible to infections. You must sterilise your baby’s bottles and other items to ensure that they do
not come in contact with disease-causing germs. However, before sterilising, wash the bottles and teats thoroughly with dishwashing liquid. You can try using Vim Dishwash Gel for this. It is easily available in the market.
Here are some simple and efficient ways to sterilise your baby's feeding equipment.
Ingredients to Keep Handy:
a) Electric steamer
b) Pan
c) Container
Using an Electric Steamer
An electric steamer can be easily purchased from any baby store. It takes about 5 minutes to sterilise the bottle using an electric steamer.
Step 1: Fill Up the Steamer
Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Generally, a steamer with a holding capacity of 5 bottles needs 200 ml of water.
Step 2: Place the Bottles
The heating device is at the bottom. So, place the bottles upside down. The teats should be facing upwards so that the steam can get inside.
Step 3: Start the Steamer
Start the steamer and set the time as per the instructions. 5 to 10 minutes should be enough. Make sure the lid on the steamer is tight so that the steam doesn't escape.
Step 4: Assemble the Bottles
You can leave the bottles in the steamer for up to 6 hours as long as the lid is shut. If you remove the lid of the steamer, assemble the feeding equipment quickly. Place the sterilised items in a clean, airtight container.
Using Boiling Water
This is the simplest way to sterilise your baby's bottle.
Step 1: Fill a Pan with Water
Fill a deep-bottomed pan with water. Place the feeding apparatus in the pan. Ensure there are no air traps.
Step 2: Boil the Water
Place a heavy lid on the pan to ensure the bottles stays submerged in water. Let the water boil for about 10 minutes.
Step 3: Assemble the Bottles
Wait for the water to cool down and assemble your baby's bottles. You can store a sterilised bottle for up to 24 hours.
Using Cold Sterilisation
Cold sterilisation is perfect for when you are travelling.
Step 1: Grab a Clean Container
Take a clean container and place your baby’s bottles and other items in it.
Step 2: Fill Sterilising Solution
Fill the container with water and a sterilising solution, which is easily available in your local supermarket.
Step 3: Leave it for 30 minutes
Let the apparatus stay in the water for at least 30 minutes. You can reuse the solution, but not later than 24 hours.
