If you are forced to stay indoors for an extended period, don’t let that stop you from taking delivery of household essentials. The convenience of online shopping allows you to keep your grocery and other food supplies coming in uninterrupted. If you’re anxious about catching an infection from delivery packages, this article has some useful tips for you on how to handle online deliveries and packages.
Follow these safety measures and sanitising solutions and minimise the risk of infection.
1) Ask for Contactless Delivery
Ask your delivery agent to leave your package on the floor outside or on an outdoor table. This eliminates the risk of person-to-person transmission of infections.
2) Wear Gloves
Before picking up the package, wear gloves for protection. This is to make sure you don’t touch the package directly, as it is likely to have changed hands several times during the delivery process.
3) Wipe Down the Package
Once you have received the package, it’s good to give it a thorough wipe-down. You can pour some alcohol-based sanitiser on tissue paper to wipe the package.
4) Wash Your Hands
Remember to wash your hands with soap after wiping the package. This can help prevent the spread of viruses.
5) Wash Your Gloves
Don’t forget to give your gloves a thorough wash after handling the package. You can soak them in a bucket of warm water mixed with 1 tsp. of white vinegar or lemon juice for 20-30 minutes and wash as usual. You can also use disposable gloves.
6) Clean Surfaces
The World Health Organization advises regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces like doorknobs and handles. You may have touched your doorknob or any surface at home after picking up the package. You can make a cleaning solution by mixing 2 tsp. of vinegar, 2 tsp. of lemon juice and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid in 1 cup of water. Spray and wipe clean with a cloth as needed. Make sure to wash this cloth thoroughly.
All these surfaces can also be cleaned with a regular household detergent and water. It’s better to take preventive measures to ensure your safety and that of your loved ones. Share these tips with your friends and family too!
