A right suit can polish and sharpen your look on special occasions. Thus, taking proper care of your suit is of utmost importance. With a little effort, you can keep your suit looking brand new for longer.

Storing your suit in an improper way can be fatal to the quality of the suit. Since a suit is expensive and isn’t generally worn on an everyday basis, it’s important to preserve it using the right measures.

Here are a few useful tips to help you out.

Before using any mild detergent, test it on a small inconspicuous area of the garment to check the compatibility.

1) Brush It

Before hanging your suit in your wardrobe, lay it flat on the ironing board and gently brush it using a fabric brush. This’ll remove dirt and lint.

2) Say No to Sunlight

Sunlight can be fatal for the colour of your suit. Exposing your suit to direct sunlight can cause discolouration. Hence, hang it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

If you have multiple suits, space them out evenly on your hanging bar in order to ensure proper ventilation.

If you’re travelling, you can use a portable garment bag for your suit. Remember to place it properly in your suitcase to avoid wrinkles.

7) Get Rid of Stains Before Storing

If you want to get rid of a particular stain on your suit before storing it, carefully handwash it using a mild detergent. Take a bowl of clean water, add 1-tsp. of mild detergent and mix it well.
